Universal has officially revealed the name of its long-awaited UK theme park destination, confirming that the new resort in Bedfordshire will be known as Universal United Kingdom Resort. The announcement was made on Wednesday as Comcast NBCUniversal and the UK Government unveiled a series of major updates on the multi-billion-pound development.
Set to become Universal’s first-ever theme park resort in Europe, Universal United Kingdom Resort is scheduled to open in 2031, with major construction expected to ramp up imminently on the Bedfordshire site. The resort will be located near Bedford, around 45 minutes north of London.

Alongside the official name reveal, Universal also unveiled the resort’s branding and confirmed further details surrounding the scale of the project. The destination will include a world-class theme park featuring multiple immersive lands, a 500-room hotel, and a large retail, dining and entertainment district designed to serve both day guests and overnight visitors.
Comcast NBCUniversal confirmed it will invest more than £5 billion into the development and operation of the resort, making it one of the largest entertainment investments ever seen in the UK. The UK Government also announced £1.3 billion in infrastructure funding, which will support major transport upgrades in and around Bedfordshire, including road improvements and rail enhancements to accommodate the expected millions of annual visitors.

Universal United Kingdom Resort is expected to attract around 8.5 million visitors in its first year of operation, potentially making it one of the UK’s most visited attractions. The project is also forecast to create approximately 28,000 jobs, including around 20,000 construction roles and 8,000 permanent jobs once the resort opens.
While Universal has still not officially confirmed any themed lands or franchises for the resort, speculation continues to grow surrounding potential experiences inspired by some of the company’s biggest brands and licensed properties. However, Wednesday’s announcement focused primarily on the resort’s official identity, infrastructure commitments, economic impact, and timeline towards opening.
The reveal marks a major milestone for the UK project as Universal moves one step closer to bringing its first European resort destination to life.
